The MISS Database

The database creation process was realized by a defined scenario:
1. Database format is Microsoft SQL Server.
2. The methodology of design and development of database, in the phase of external and conceptual design, is Object Role Modeling (ORM).
During the development of the data model, the ORM methodology proved to be effective. Source documents from the museum business (expert cards, reports) were used during the analysis of business rules. The conceptual model was developed in part in real time since designers - modelers immediately entered into ORM diagrams determined rules derived from the project team during development. Such direct, formalized way of demonstration of data structure - entities and attributes with their respective relations and limitations in the real world – business system has, to a great degree, accellerated and contributed to quality of the entire database design process.
For creation of the logical model of the database the standard Entity Relationship (ER) modeling was utilized.
For creation of the SQL database the Transact SQL DDL (Data Definition Language) script was generated.
Beside the printed version, an integral part of the project documentation is a CD which contains the files:
• Projekt_MISS.PDF – the complete project text
• ENTITETI_ATRIBUTI.VSD – ORM source diagrams (Visio file)
• Er_miss_L.VSD – ER diagrams (Visio file)
• Er_miss_L.DDL - DDL script (Transact SQL scripts for creating the MISS database)
• README_MISS.TXT – comments
Certain modifications are expected in the structure of the created database which are inevitable during creation of the user application. All these modifications with reverse engineering, which is a component of VISIO, are „returned“ to the project documentation which is updated in such a way.
